From the Top of Mt. Takane in Shirahama

080218takane01_2Today it was really beautiful here in Shimoda. I can't believe that there were black clounds in the sky yesterday.

This afternoon I went to Mt. Takane, the highest mountain in Shimoda, with my son, Yuuki.

I took this photo on the top of this mountain. I could see Izu Seven Islands clearly over Shirahama beach.

Snow in Amagi Mountain, Izu Peninsula

080211snow01_2Don't you think we have a lot of snow this year?

Last week we had snow in Izu peninsula, but there was no snow in Shimoda.
So I was thinking to take my children to Amagi mountain play with snow,  and I went there with my daughter, my son and my daughter's friend after I finished to clean the guest rooms.....

The Highest Mountain "Takane" in Shirahama

080208mttakane01_2Yesterday my friend asked me,

"How is the blooming of Sakura on Mt. Takane? Because I have my own Sakura there."

As I was not able to answer him I decided to go this mountain to check Sakura blossoms with my son today. (Actually there are our three sakura trees there too!)

When we got off our car we started to walk.
This is a small place to see Izu seven island on the way to the top of mountain.....

Izu Bio Park in Inatori

071205biopark00_2Today, as my wife had to wok her job my son, Yuuki and I went to the amusement park "Izu Bio Park" in Inatori town.

On the way to Inatori I took this picture as usual.

This is Shirahama Chuou Beach near Shimoda Prince Hotel.
I could see Izu Oshima island clearly today.

From Shirahama it takes about 25 mintues by car to Bio Park....

Hydrangea Festival in Shimoda

070528ajisai00When I went to Shimoda for shopping with my son, I went to "Shimoda Park" to check the blooming of Hydrangea, "Ajisai" in Japanese.

The flowers has just started to bloom, but we could see some flowers there.

They says that there are 3 million flowers of Hydragea in this park, and we can walk in a lot of flowers with a view of Shimoda town and harbor at the peak of blooming season.

sakura Blossoms in Western Izu Peninsula

070331sakura01_1Today I went to Shuzenji for my job, and came back to Shimoda through Western side of Izu Peninsula.

This is Koganezaki-cape in Ugusu town. It takes 60 minutes by car from Shimoda.

There are a lot of Sakura trees in a small garden and they were blooming 50 or 60% in this stage.

After that, I went to Matsuzaki to see another Sakura blossoms....

Mt. Fuji and Rape Blossoms in Western Izu Peninsula

070215mtfuji01_1Today my wife had to do her job, so I had to be a baby sitter of my son, Yuuki.

I was thinking where we go.

As we had a strong wind I thought that we might be able to see Mt. Fuji from the west side of Izu peninsula today.

I reseached it in the web camera site ..... Bingo !!

So I desided to go to see Mt. Fuji with my son !!

When I was driving on the way of West Izu I could see Mt. Fuji,  I was very excited !!

Aloe's Festival in Shirahama

061210aloe01_1The Aloe's Festival started to take place in Shirahama yesterday.

The blooming of Aloe's flower is a little earlier than usual.

In this stage 70 or 80 % are bloomed.
The peak of blooming of these flowers will be in new year holidays, I guess.

Foot Spa - Izukyu Shimoda train station

061108footspa01_1I went to Shimoda train station today.

I have ever been there a lot of times, but I have never show this.

This is Foot Spa in front of Shimoda station building.

This spa is free of charge and opened for 24 hours.
The capacity is about 4 people, so it is not big, I think.

If you go to Shimoda by train please try it once.

Besides I show you the view from this spa. .....

Aloe Field in Shirahama - the entrance of Shimoda city

061107aloe01_1Today we, the members of Shirahama Tourist association cleaned up the field of Aloe at Itado area in Shirahama.

Because we have "Aloe Festival " in this area from December 9th.

To clean up this field we got into the Aloe trees and cut the weeds.

It was cloudy today but it became a little hot for us cleaning up this area.....

Sawada Park Rotenburo- Outside Hot Spring in Dogashima

061017rotenburo01_1Today it was beautiful day, so I went to Nishi Izu with my son, Yuuki.

After 1 hours driving we could see the ocean and drove for 5 minutes we got to "Sawada Koen (Open-Air Spa)"
in Dogashima.

When we arrived there was nobody in a parking lot and I found a sign at the reception of this Onsen.
"Closed on every Tuesday" it said.

But I was not going to take a bath there because my son had a little cold today.

After parking my car we went up the steep steps to get to Onsen on the top of hill.

"Hey Yuuki, watch your step !!"   .....

A Fireworks Festival in Shirahama, Shimoda

060708fireworks00_1On every 2nd Saturday in July a Fireworks Festival "Hanabi Taikai" takes place in Shirahama beach.
This fireworks is held as one of events which tell you a summer is coming.

We are worrying about the weather every year, becaus it is still in a rainny season.

Actually it was rainny last year, but the rain stopped 5 minutes before this festival. It was really amazing.

I found it in the train !!

By the way I took this picture from inside Izukyu train.

This train was going toward Rendaiji station after this tunnel.

When I came from Nagoya to Shimoda station on June 24th, I found it in this train.......

Hydrangea Festival in Shimoda

060605hydrangea01_1The hydrangea Festival that is held at Shimoda park is taking place this year too.

This is a signboard that I took in front of Shimoda station.
This boad says to travellers about events of Shimoda all the year, and this time it advertises Ajisai (hydrangea) Festival takes place from June 1st to 30th.

Fureai no Mori in Inatori town

060604park0_1"Let's go to the long slide this afternoon !"

After checking out of our guest I said so.

My children of course agreed with me, so we went a park in Inatori is called "Fureai no mori" after I finished to clean up the guest room.

In this park there are many kinds of trees, playground equipments and observatory.

Naturally our main purpose was a long slide.
The length of this slide is 50 meters.

From the top of this slide we can see a beautiful view of Inatori town, pacific ocean and Izu seven islands.

As soon as we got there my daughter started to slide down, but it didn't work well.....

Shimoda Station was changed to "Sekisho"/67th Black Ship Festival 2006

060520shimodastation01_1Do you konw what Sekisho is ?

Sekisho is a one of checkpoints where the goverment of Edo era stopped every traveller.

During  Black Ship Festival the Railway Company, "Izukyu Line" changes Shimoda station like this picture every year.

And there are many people wearing costumes of Edo era....... .

Jasmine Festival at Ryosenji Temple

060519jasmine01_1Today It was rainny day but I went to "Ryosenji Temple" in Shimoda, and I found a lot of flowers blooming.

Now "Jasmine Festival" is taking place in this temple, and about 1,000 trees of Jasmine are blooming on both side of a small path.

From today "Black Ship Festival" is held in Shimoda city, so many foreigners were in the city.....

67th Black Ship Festival from Tomorrow

060518shimodaharbor01_1Tonight, when I went to Shimoda I found that a ship was decorated a lot of beautiful lights at Shimoda harbor.

"Well, Black Ship Festival will take place from tomorrow.... ."

I was going to take a piciture of that ship later, but when I went back to the harbor 2 hours later again, the decorations had already been finished.

So I am going to show a picture that I took 2 years ago.......

Yuuki, it's a sunny day !!

It was good for my son to walk outside today.

I was going to take a picture of my son standing on a chair, and said,
"Cheers ! Yuuki !"
He made his face like a monster.
And his mother was watching him worring.

Mt. Takane Walking Map / Shimoda: Shirahama

060513takanemape01As I wrote in this weblog I went to Mt. Takane which is highest mountain in Shimoda yesterday.

Then I remember that I was going to make a webpage of Mt. Takane hiking with a guide map.

So I decided to make it today, but I could make only map like this.
Because I wanted to make not only simple map but also map with pictures.

It took long time, so I couldn't make all webpage today.

The route to the top of Mt. Takane is not difficult, so if you would like to go there please use this map.

"Joren-no-Taki"fall in Amagi

060510jorenfall01_1This is a most famous and biggest water fall "Joren-no-Taki" in Amagi in Izu peninsula.

In Japan, most of Japanese know this fall, because a Japanese singer "Sayuri Ishikawa" sing about this fall in her song.
That's why a lot of people want to visit this fall to see it.

This fall is 25 meters high and 7 meters wide and selected one of 100 falls selection in Japan. ......

"Shun no Sato" in Shimoda

This is a shop "Shun no Sato" where local farmers are selling various products.

I was surprised that about 500 farmars are providing.

We sometimes go this place to buy many kinds of things ...... .

Wasabi Soft Cream

060502wasabi001_1Have you ever eaten this ice cream ?

When I went to Amagi I found this "Wasabi Soft Cream" at "Michi no eki" which is one of Rest areas.

Recently we can see and eat Wasabi ice cream at many places in Japan, and most of them is mixed with Wasabi.

But they provide it topping Wasabi on the top of vanilla soft cream.
Yes, it was really fantastic and lovely taste !!......

Monument of Perry's landing / Shimoda

060422perrylanding01_1Today my daughters had a class of classical ballet in Shimoda, so my son and me went to Shimoda harbor to spend a time.

This is a landing monument of "Commodore Matthew C. Perry".

In 1854 his squardon came to Shimoda to investigate weather it could supply the water, charcoal and other materials needed by American vessels.....

At the end of festival of Kawazu Sakura 2006

060311kawazusakura001_1My son, Yuuki, haven't had a good condition yet and he cried many times today, so I took hime to drive to Kawadu town.

Sakura blossoms finish at the end of Sakura festival in this stage, May 10th, everyyear.

But Sakura blossom is late 1 or 2 weeks this year, so we can still see it now.

We went there at around 5:00pm, but.....

Sakura in the night-Minami Izu

060311minamisakura001_1Tonight, my son, Yuuki, and me went to Minami Izu town to see Sakura of night.

To tell the truth, we went there last night too, because my son caught a cold, had a bad condition and was very nervous, so I took him to drive to make him better feeling.
When we got there we saw a beautiful view of Night Sakura.  Then I wanted to take a photo.
But as I didn't bring my camera, I couldn't take a photo of Night Sakura.

So I tried to go Minami Izu to take it again tonight.....

"Ashi Yu" in Shimoda

060225shimodaspa001_1Today my daughter, Akari had a lesson of classical ballet in the morning, so Hikari, Yuuki and me went to the park near Shimoda harbor during her class.

As we had strong wind today, so we tried to play football but could not play it.
After that we decided to go to Spa for foot (Ashi Yu) in this park.....

He was surprised at the horse.

060224horse001_1When we went to Sakura festival we could find the horse wagon for the 1st time this year.

This horse wagon goes around the festival area, and the price would be 1,000 yen per adult and 700 yen per child.

Of course it was 1st time for my son to see the horse.
When I took hime to the horse my son.....

Sakura and Rape blossoms festival 02/23/2006

060223nanohana001_1After the dental treatment of my wife finished we went to Minami Izu to see Sakura and Rape blossoms.

It was 3rd time for me and 2nd time for my son, but 1st time for my wife to come to see these rape blossoms this year.

These flowers are bigger day after day, some of them were taller than my son at last....

Sand Ski in Touji, Shimoda

When we went there last time on February 5th, my daughter said to me "I want to come here again with my friends."

So I went to Touji beach with my daughters and their friends today.

My son Yuuki was in a house because he has a little fever..... .
